Dan has loved the look of the glass in telescopes and camera lenses since he was ten, which is when he received his first telescope as a Christmas gift from his parents. He enjoyed that telescope and wished for a camera as well. Something about the lenses just looked "cool." His parents couldn't afford the cameras he admired when he was young so he had to wait. After graduating high school, in 1977, his parents bought him his first 35mm film camera. Dan immediately attended a photography class at a local community college that Fall. Unfortunately, that first class proved to be expensive and he had to put his formal training on hold but continued his love of photography. Sadly Dan sold his first camera, but never gave up his desire to pursue photography. In August of 2004 Dan was able to rekindle his love of photography with new equipment and a renewed intensity.
Today, Dan's wife Susan and son John are now his constant supporters and inspiration. Dan's devotion to Susan and John is evident in everything he does. He always strives to make others happy, either with a joke or just a warm hello and a friendly smile.
The quote below describes Dan well. He laughs often and is well respected by his friends and colleagues. Talking with Dan you soon realize he seeks out the best in you and in everything around him. You get the feeling that he believes he can leave the world a bit better by just doing what is right and living as well as possible. You can see that evidence in his photography and how his appreciation of the beauty in all things is captured in its best possible light. This appreciation and attention to detail is what makes Dan's work special.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------My photography has grown much since 2004. I now realize that each photograph must be refined and polished to bring out my original vision. The entire process, from imagining the photograph to the final product, is as individual as the photographer.
Most of my flower photos are created while spending time with Susan and our dog Max in the gardens we grow around our home. The nature photos are created during our visits to the many beautiful parks and gardens in our home state, Michigan. The impressionist style photos are inspired by my appreciation of the paintings by Claude Monet.

to win the respect
of intelligent people
and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation
of honest critics and endure
the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty,
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life
has breathed easier
because you have lived.
That is to have succeeded.
